Three
things to get us started
You've decided to take your home video, hi-def experience to the next
level. Choosing a front projection system means choosing the most
theater-like experience at home possible. While there are a variety of
reasons why you're choosing the Epson Home Cinema 1080 UB, let's begin
with three — aspect ratio, resolution, and screen size. Also
known as "widescreen", the 16:9 aspect ratio supported by your Home
Cinema 1080 UB allows you to view high-definition content as it is
meant to be seen. The highest pixel resolution available, 1920x x1080p
means that you view each scene on a screen composed of 1920 horizontal
and 1080 vertical pixels — for a grand total of more that 2
million pixels — and that each scene can be displayed in
"interlaced" or "progressive" fashion. A small "i" or "p" after the
pixel resolution denotes whether a system can deliver an interlaced or
progressive image. Interlaced scanning displays one half of an image at
a time, while progressive scanning displays the entire image at once,
for the smoothest video reproduction available. (Any system capable of
progressive scanning is also capable of interlaced scanning.) Finally,
your Home Cinema 1080 UB is capable of displaying an image on a screen
up to 100" in size. Put in the velvet curtains . . . your home theater
is on its way.
Color,
depth, brilliance — 3LCD
More is better. Your new Home Cinema 1080 UB's
C²Fine™ 3LCD technology uses three D7 0.74"
poly-silicon active matrix LCDs to deliver images with color that is
amazingly accurate and brilliant. An image reproduction system
featuring 3LCD splits the light coming from the projector's light
source into three beams, one color each — red, blue, and
green — and then passes each beam through its own LCD chip.
Each chip is controlled by the projector's computer, opening and
closing its more than 2 million liquid crystal pixels and allowing only
a specified portion of the colored light through. Finally, the three
color images are combined by a prism and magnified by an
OptiCinema™ lens and projected onto your screen. The use of
three LCD-matrix chips allows for optimal control over the reproduction
of images and color, delivering a picture with the highest possible
resolution and deep, accurate colors. With 3LCD, more is better.
It
all begins with light
Every component of your new Home Cinema 1080 UB front projection
television is important. This includes the very first step in video
reproduction — the lamp. A 170W Twin Optimized Reflective
Lamp (E-TORL) gives your video 1,600 lumens of brilliance. This level
of lumen production is great for viewing spaces with low or dimmed
levels of ambient light. Also, the Home Cinema 1080 UB's lamp delivers
a 3,000-hour running life, giving you a good excuse to expand your
video library.
HDMI
= Connectivity
Bringing you the absolute best in connectivity, Epson's Home Cinema
1080 UB features two HDMI connections. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia
Interface) is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry
both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed
multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i and even
1080p. Your incoming media content comes in a variety of sizes,
resolutions and formats, and with that in mind, HDMI systems
automatically configure to display that content in the most effective
format. Since HDMI carries all channels on video and audio, there is
only one cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled source and display device.
No more complicated cable set-up when installing your home theater
system, and no more ugly cable mess behind your components. HDMI
supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus
multi-channel digital audio on this single cable. Also, HDMI is fully
backward-compatible with DVI.
1080Perfect
processing™ — What more can we say?
No matter what the input source, your Home Cinema 1080 UB's video
processor delivers optimum output. Taking full advantage of the HDMI
v1.3 connection, 1080Perfect™ offers 24 frame-per-second
compatibility for smooth playback from film sources (via HDMI),
provides smooth scaling for amazing images even from standard
definition sources like current 480p resolution DVD movies, makes it
possible to display 1080p resolution from all connections, and can
reproduce a phenomenal 1.07 billion colors.
Extraordinary
Optics
The Pro Cinema's 1080's precision-crafted OptiCinema™ 2.1x
zoom lens delivers precision images with no flaring or distortion.
Offering 47% horizontal and 96% vertical lens shift, the OptiCinema
lens lets you correct off-center mounting, and adjust image-size to
within two or three screen sizes (based on a 100-inch screen), while
giving you the flexibility to project on a 100-inch screen from as
close as 9.8 feet or as far away as 20.9 feet.
Connections
and formats, continued
One of the cool things about the current state of home video and
electronics is the wide variety of technologies, formats and
connectivity options available. Keeping step with so much coolness,
your Home Cinema 1080 UB comes designed with a broad spectrum of video
connections and supported video formats. RCA component and composite
video connections, Mini Din S-video, and Mini D-Sub 9 and 15-pin inputs
give you all the connectivity versatility you need. Covering all your
broadcast-format bases, your Home Cinema 1080 UB supports NTSC,
NTSC4.43, PAL, M-PAL, N-PAL PAL60, SECAM, 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and
1080p.
Hear
the movie, not the projector
That low drone you're hearing had better be the sound of a distant
helicopter coming from off-scene in the movie you're watching, and not
from your television projector. If you're watching the moive on your
Epson Home Cinema 1080 UB, then it must be the helicopter. With a super
quiet 24dB operation, you'll be able to see, but not hear your Home
Cinema 1080 UB when it's running.
