A
true trendsetter
D3531XLHD in Touchless® Stainless Steel from Asko is not one to
follow crowds. It's a true trendsetter. With its Integrated design,
which basically means hidden controls, and sleek stainless steel
finish, this dishwasher turned a lot of heads, and not long after, a
lot of dishwashers started to have hidden control panels and stainless
steel finish. This looks great in a wide variety of kitchens, and the
fingerprint resistant stainless steel keeps it that way. With the
integrated design, the D3531XLHD comes with a matching bar handle that
doubles as a handy towel rack. If there was a Vogue for kitchen
appliances, you can bet this cool cat would find itself on the cover.
But
where are the controls?
Don't worry. This dishwasher isn't just an expensive mind-puzzle, or a
glorified game of hide and seek. The controls are not hard to find,
they're just normally out of sight. The control panel sits on top of
the door, so it is easy to access with the door partially open, but out
of sight while the dishwasher's door is closed. The controls consist of
a few buttons and an LCD screen which displays the program names, time
remaining, temperature, and options. This makes it easy to navigate
through the 10 different cycles and the options to get the best
settings for your load of dishes.
Compensating
for inequality
Not all loads of dishes are the same, and Asko knows this. That's why,
on their D3531XLHD, they included 10 different wash cycles so your wash
cycle always matches your load of dirty dishes. These include cycles
for heavy dishes (perfect for your dirty cookwear), delicate (for
dishes like silver or fine china), normal (for your everyday load of
dinner dishes), mixed (for a combination of the three), auto wash
(which uses sensors to do your dishes most effectively), Quick (when
you need clean plates fast), Rinse and Hold (rinses dishes and leaves
them [designed for dishes you are going to do later]), Rinse and Dry
(For dishes that aren't really dirty), top rack only, and bottom rack
only. With all these great options, Asko is sure to have a wash cycle
that is just perfect for your load of dishes.
More
than just ENERGY STAR
So every Asko dishwasher meets ENERGY STAR standards. That's a great
thing, but a lot of dishwashers are certified. Well, Asko doesn't stop
looking for ways to help the environment just because they have the
award already. Their commitment to being environmentally friendly goes
such much farther than just being ENERGY STAR certified. Aside from
this certification, Asko worked to build some of the most energy and
water efficient dishwashers on the market, amazingly while improving
quality. To do this, they have designed numerous innovative features
that serve the purpose of wasting less and foremost doing your dishes
better. Another thing they do is label every part of their dishwashers
larger than three ounces for recycling. For Asko, their commitment to
the environment goes far beyond the bare minimum of meeting ENERGY STAR
requirements. In fact, the D3531XLHD exceeds the federal minimum energy
efficiency standards by 141% (41% is the minimum to qualify for ENERGY
STAR. In fact, there is only one other brand with more efficient
dishwashers. So while the outer panels on the D3531XLHD are stainless
steel, on the inside, it's 100% green. Okay, maybe not literally, but
you get the point.
Here
to stay
Aesthetic features like stainless steel panels are great, but a
dishwasher of any quality can have a shiny exterior. It's what's on the
inside that counts. After all, you're buying a "dishwasher", not a
"stainless steel box", so it's important to know that your dishwasher
will stand the test of not only quality, but time. The inside panels
are electro-polished surgical quality stainless steel, which prohibits
the accumulation of dirt and bacteria on the inside of your dishwasher.
Also, their stainless steel tank, spray arms and filtration system
won't rust, chip or absorb odors. The one-piece, galvanized steel base
pan provides superior structural integrity and reduces vibrations, and
is not available on any competitively made U.S. unit. The electronic
controls are double-sealed from moisture. All the racks are coated with
Viscant graphite nylon. The door springs are designed to last 20 years.
The outer panels are resistant to fingerprints and other stains. It
also features two pumps and two motors, versus one each on most builds,
which not only makes it last longer, it makes it run more efficiently.
So where's the proof that this will all really hold up? For lack of
pudding, we'll look at warranties. While most dishwashers have a
one-year warranty, Asko guarantees the quality of their build for three
full years. Looks like it's going to be here for awhile...
It's
what's on the inside that counts
The interior layout of a dishwasher is also important. After all, if it
isn't right for your dishes, you're going to regret your purchase for
years to come, which is why Asko put so much thought into the design of
the D3531XLHD. The rack design is innovation on a whole new level. Both
the top and bottom racks are coated with Viscant™ graphite
nylon for durability, but both racks have very different purposes. The
bottom is designed for plates, or heavier, dirtier dishes, such as
cookware. The top holds smaller, less dirty dishes, such as bowls,
cups, or saucers. The best part is that you can use this to your
advantage when selecting cycles. For example, if you're just doing
dishes from a small party, you can load all the dishes into the top
rack, and run a "top rack only" cycle. Maybe, though, you cooked a full
three-course meal, and have stacks of pots and pans all around your
kitchen. Get rid of them quickly with the "bottom rack only" cycle.
But, what if you have both? No worries. Select "mixed" cycle, and the
dishwasher automatically runs its "heavy" cycle on the bottom and the
"delicate" on top. The racks are designed to accomodate a variety of
dishes at the same time, and with no bulky central water tower or
connectors, the D3531XLHD can handle more than 12 International place
settings at once. The bottom cutlery basket features eight individual
compartments for untensils, including a containment lid for two as well
as a fold-down handle, and there is a slide-out upper cutlery rack for
other knives. Finally, double-coated, cushioned tines keep your fingers
and dishes safe. It's this attention to even the smallest details that
has earned Asko a reputation as one of the highest-quality dishwasher
builds in the industry.
